Dakota Mayi Johnson was born on October 4, 1989 in Austin, Texas. She is an American film and television actress, model and producer.

Dakota Johnson is the daughter of actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith and granddaughter of actress Tippi Hedren.

She made her screen debut at the age of nine in 1999 in the comedy Crazy in Alabama opposite her mother. She landed her next film role about a decade later in David Fincher's The Social Network. Since then she has been involved in both film and television productions. She had her big international breakthrough with the female lead of Anastasia Steele in the film adaptations of the bestselling trilogy 50 Shades of Grey. In 2018, she starred in Suspiria, Luca Guadagnino's remake of the 1977 horror classic.

In 2006, Johnson was named Miss Golden Globe at the Golden Globe Awards.

She has been in a relationship with musician Chris Martin since 2017.
