Biography of Sienna Miller
Sienna Rose Diana Miller was born on December 28, 1981. She is a British-American actress and fashion designer.
Sienna Miller was born in the USA and grew up in England. She holds a British and a US passport. Her South African-born mother, Josephine, ran the Lee Strasberg School in London and was David Bowie's secretary. Her father Edwin Miller is a banker. Together with her sister, fashion designer Savannah Miller, who is three years older than her, she founded the label Twenty8Twelve, where they were co-creative directors until 2012. She also has two half brothers, Charles and Stephen. After her parents divorced in 1987, Miller moved with her mother to the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. She attended Heathfield School, Ascot, where she played lacrosse and began acting.
After graduating from school, Miller was in front of the camera at the age of 18 as a photo model for various advertising campaigns. These include various fashion labels, jeans brands, calendars and drinks. With the money she earned, she enrolled in the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute in New York.
She made her screen debut in the 2001 romantic comedy South Kensington opposite Elle Macpherson and Rupert Everett. In 2002, Miller landed a role in the independent film High Speed. She also appeared in the pay-TV short series The American Embassy on FOX and in the BBC mini-series Bedtime.
Her first appearance thereafter was the lead role as Fiona Bickerton on the short-lived Fox television series Keen Eddie. This was followed in 2004 by London crime drama Layer Cake, in which she had a cameo role opposite Daniel Craig, and a remake of the Michael Caine classic Alfie, in which she starred alongside Jude Law and Marisa Tomei. Miller then got a co-lead role in Casanova in 2005, opposite Heath Ledger.
In 2008 she was nominated for a BIFA Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the British drama film The Edge of Love. In the action film adaptation G.I. Joe - The Rise of Cobra from 2009 she can be seen with Channing Tatum. She then took a break from film and in late 2009 starred with Jonny Lee Miller in Patrick Marber's adaptation of After Miss Julie, based on August Strindberg's Miss Julie in New York on Broadway. In London, she appeared in Flare Path at the Theater Royal Haymarket in 2011, directed by Trevor Nunn.
Miller received British Academy Film Award and Golden Globe Award nominations for the 2012 TV movie The Girl, in which she played Alfred Hitchcock's muse Tippi Hedren. She herself spoke to Hedren several times during filming.
In 2014, she starred in the sports drama Foxcatcher as the wife of slain wrestler David Schultz. In the 2014 Clint Eastwood film American Sniper, she played the wife Taya Kyle of Chris Kyle, an American sniper portrayed by Bradley Cooper.
Miller received another BIFA Award nomination in 2015 for her role in Ben Wheatley's British sci-fi film High-Rise, opposite Tom Hiddleston. Between February and March 2015, she took on the role of Sally Bowles in the Broadway play Cabaret after the planned departure of Emma Stone.
In 2016, she starred in the James Gray adventure film Lost City of Z alongside Charlie Hunnam and Robert Pattinson. In 2016, she starred in Live by Night alongside Ben Affleck, Elle Fanning and Chris Cooper. In 2018, she starred with Paul Rudd in the biopic about baseball player Moe Berg, The Catcher Was a Spy. In the American miniseries The Loudest Voice about the television producer Roger Ailes, played by Russell Crowe, she took on the role of wife Beth Tilson Ailes.
In 2019, she starred in the action thriller 21 Bridges alongside Chadwick Boseman. Miller reported that Boseman waived part of his salary so that she could be paid the same price. In the 2020 film drama Wander Darkly by Tanja Miele, she plays a pair of parents with Diego Luna.
In 2022 she will star in the UK Netflix miniseries Anatomy of a Scandal alongside Michelle Dockery and Rupert Friend.
In 2017 she was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which awards the Oscars annually.
From 2003 to 2006 and from 2009 to 2011 she was in a relationship with Jude Law. From 2011 to 2015 she was with actor Tom Sturridge, with whom she has a daughter who was born in July 2012.
