Shailene Diann Woodley was born on November 15, 1991 in Simi Valley, California. She is an American actress.

Shailene Woodley attended Valley View Middle School and then Simi Valley High School.

She started acting at the age of five. In addition to acting, she writes scripts, makes her own films and takes photographs. She also enjoys trying extreme sports like parasailing, bungee jumping and stunt flying.

From 2008 to 2013 she played the role of Amy Juergens in the US ABC Family youth series The Secret Life of the American Teenager. In the television series, she played an early 15-year-old who discovers she is pregnant.

Woodley earned critical acclaim for portraying George Clooney's rebellious daughter in Alexander Payne's 2011 tragic comedy The Descendants. She won a Hollywood Spotlight Award for her portrayal of 17-year-old Alex, received the National Board of Review Best Supporting Actress award, a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress, and won the 2012 MTV Movie Awards for Best Newcomer. At the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, she received the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Acting.

In 2014, she starred in Divergent, the film adaptation of Veronica Roth's novel The Destiny. She also plays the role of the daring "Tris Prior" in the two sequels from 2015 and 2016. She was slated to have a brief appearance as Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Rise of Electro, although scenes were cut from the final film prior to its release. In the film adaptation of John Green's young adult book The Fault in Our Stars, she plays the female lead Hazel Grace Lancaster, a 16-year-old cancer patient. She received the 2015 MTV Movie Award for Best Actress for this role. In 2017 she was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which awards the Oscars annually.

She has been dating Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers since 2020 and has been engaged to him since 2021.
