Mena Alexandra Suvari was born on February 13, 1979 in Newport, Rhode Island. She is an American actress, fashion designer and model.

Suvari was born in Newport, Rhode Island, to Candice (given name Chambers), a registered nurse, and Ando Suvari, a psychiatrist. Her mother is of Greek descent and her father is of Estonian-American descent. She has three older brothers.

Suvari began her acting career in the mid-1990s by appearing in television series. She was, among other things, in Life and I and Emergency Room. In Chicago Hope she played a girl named Ivy with HIV.

Her first film role was in the 1997 film Nowhere alongside James Duval. She then had a small role as Coty Pierce in the 1997 thriller, Kiss the Girls, starring Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd. In 1998, she played a supporting role in the independent drama Slums of Beverly Hills alongside Natasha Lyonne, her future co-star in American Pie.

In 1999 she starred in the Oscar-winning film American Beauty, for which she received many awards. Her performance as Angela Hayes also brought her international fame as an actress. That same year, she played the role of Heather in the hit teen film American Pie. The film grossed over $200 million worldwide. She also starred as Lisa Parker in the 1976 sequel, Carrie 2: The Dead Revenge. She plays Emily Bergl's character's best friend, who commits suicide, in the film.

Suvari starred alongside American Pie co-star Jason Biggs in the romantic comedy Loser (2000). In 2001 she was seen in The Musketeer, which was received mostly negatively by critics. She reprized her role as Heather in the American Pie sequel, American Pie 2 (2001), which, like the first, was a big hit. Suvari played cheerleader Kansas Hill in the comedy Sugar & Spice (2001). The film flopped at the box office. The following year she starred in the independent drama Spun opposite Brittany Murphy and starred in Nicolas Cage's directorial debut Sonny opposite James Franco.

In 2004, Suvari's film Traumata was released at the Sundance Film Festival. She also had a recurring role on the television series Six Feet Under as the lesbian poet Edie.

Suvari starred alongside Keira Knightley in Tony Scott's Domino (2005). The film is based on the true story of Domino Harvey. Also in 2005, she played Jennifer Aniston's sister in the romance film Rumor has It and the role of Joanne Marcus in the comedy Beauty Shop, starring Queen Latifah and Alicia Silverstone. In 2006, she starred opposite Katherine Heigl in the romantic comedy Caffeine. In the same year she starred opposite Sienna Miller in the biopic Factory Girl. The film tells the story of Edie Sedgwick and Andy Warhol.

In 2008, she starred in the horror film Day of the Dead. The film is a remake of the 1985 film of the same name. Suvari reprized the role of Heather in 2012's American Pie: The High School Reunion.
