Evan Rachel Wood was born on September 7, 1987 in Raleigh, North Carolina. She is an American actress.

As a child, Evan played Rachel Wood in the plays of her father, Ira David Wood III, who founded an experimental theater called Theater In The Park in a Raleigh park. At the age of five, she auditioned for the role of the child vampire Claudia in Neil Jordan's Interview with a Vampire. The part went to Kirsten Dunst, who was five years her senior.

After her parents divorced in 1996, Wood moved to Los Angeles with her mother and brother Ira. There she gained experience as an actress on television, including appearances in the series American Gothic and Touched By An Angel. In 1998 she played the small part of Sandra Bullock's daughter in the comedy Sisters of Magic. After her role as Chloe Waters in the third season of the crime series Profiler, Wood starred in the critically acclaimed family series Once and Again. As Jessie Collector, she gave America's anorexic teenagers a face. was nominated for a YoungStar Award for Best Teen Actress in a Television Drama Series in 2000.

In 2002, Evan played Rachel Wood in Andrew Niccol's media satire S1m0ne, the screen daughter of Al Pacino and Catherine Keener, who uncovers the scam surrounding a fictional media star. A year later she made her breakthrough in the film business with the leading role in Catherine Hardwicke's drama Thirteen. She received critical acclaim for her portrayal of 13-year-old star Tracy, whose friendship with hip classmate Evie lures her into a world of consumerism, drugs and sex, alongside established actresses such as Nicole Kidman (Cold Mountain) or Uma Thurman (Kill Bill: Vol. 1) was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama.

Wood is now considered one of the most talented young actresses in Hollywood and worked on six film projects until 2006, including the drama Down in the Valley alongside Edward Norton and the tragic comedy Running with Scissors with Annette Bening and Gwyneth Paltrow. In 2007 she was awarded the Chopard Trophy at the 60th Cannes Film Festival for her performance in the drama Running with Scissors (2006). Since 2009 she has starred as the glamorous and bankrupt vampire queen Sophie Anne Leclerq on the HBO series True Blood.

Since 2016, Wood has played the lead role of Dolores Abernathy on the HBO series Westworld.

In 2018 she was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which awards the Oscars annually.

On October 30, 2012, she married Jamie Bell. On July 29, 2013, the two became the parents of a son. In May 2014, Wood and Bell announced their separation. In 2016 she formed the band Rebel and a Basketcase with Zach Villa. In January 2017, the two announced their engagement, which they called off in September.

Evan Rachel Wood currently resides in New York. In an interview with Marie Claire magazine, Wood talks about her bisexuality. Wood is trained in singing and dancing and holds a black belt in taekwondo. Her hobbies include swimming, rollerblading and horseback riding.
