Thalía

Biography of Thalía

Ariadna Thalía Sodi Miranda was born on August 26, 1971 in Mexico City. She is a Mexican-American actress and pop singer.

In 1984 she was cast in the lead role in the stage production of the musical Grease in Mexico City. This production was almost entirely staffed by teenage artists, including members of the Timbiriche formation, which was extremely popular in Mexico at the time and to which Paulina Rubio also belonged from 1982 to 1991.

She was very successful with her telenovelas in Indonesia, where they are still broadcast. She made her breakthrough there with Maria Mercedes.

The entry into a solo career took place in Los Angeles with the producer Alfredo Díaz Ordaz. But it was only when she worked with Emilio Estefan that he finally became a superstar in Latino pop, with the first hit Piel morena, which was known beyond Mexico, and finally the album Amor a la Mexicana.

Since that time, Thalía has been a fixture on the Latin pop charts. Since 1990, she has recorded over a dozen albums and sold more than seven million albums. The Spanish-language album Thalía, released in 2002, topped the Latin charts for weeks.

Since 2003, Thalía has been releasing her CDs bilingually in Spanish and English, following the example of other Latino pop musicians (Paulina Rubio, Shakira). Blurring music and language lines - Thalía has lived in the US for over 15 years and previously recorded a number of older songs in English for release in East Asia, while native Americans (Jennifer López, Christina Aguilera) are rediscovering their Spanish roots.

In 2013, the singer received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

She has beenmarriedto former Sony Music Entertainment CEO Tommy Mottola since December 2000, with whom she has had a daughter, Sabrina, since October 2007. She currently resides in New York and has obtained US citizenship.
