Katy Perry was born on October 25, 1984 in Santa Barbara, California, United States.

She is the daughter of Maurice Keith Hudson and Mary Christine Perry, two evangelical pastors. She has Portuguese, German, Irish, and English ancestry. She is the niece of film director and producer Frank Perry (1930-1995). She with a younger brother named David (born 1988), who is a singer, and an older sister Angela (born 1982).

From ages three to eleven, she traveled through different states as her parents established churches, before she settled back in Santa Barbara.

She attended religious schools and camps, such as Paradise Valley Christian School and Santa Barbara Christian School during her elementary years.

During her freshman year in high school, she completed her General Educational Development (GED) and left Dos Pueblos High School to pursue a professional career. She briefly studied opera at the Academy of the West in Santa Barbara.

In 2007 everything began to go well for Katy. She signed with Capitol Records and went to work on her new album "One of the boys". The first single from this album was "Ur So Gay", a very controversial subject due to the content of its lyrics. Madonna declared on two radio shows that "Ur So Gay" was her favorite song of the moment and it skyrocketed the singer's fame.

Single "I Kissed a Girl" was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 2009 Grammy Awards. The singer was nominated in five categories at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards.

On August 30, 2010, her second studio album was released, which reached number one on the Billboard 200 in several countries. It is made up of singles such as "California Gurls", "Teenage Dream" or "Firework", songs that were number one on the Billboard Hot 100 list in several countries.

In 2011, MTV named her Entertainer of the Year and in 2012, she was nominated for eight Grammy Awards.

Album Prism was released on October 18, 2013, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200.

Her fifth album, Witness was released on June 9, 2017 to mixed reviews.

In June 2019, she appeared in Taylor Swift's You Need to Calm Down video.

Following the release of the Never Worn White single in March 2020, she revealed in the accompanying music video that she was expecting her and Bloom's first child.

On May 15, 2020, she presents Daisies, the lead single from her sixth album, Smile, released on August 28, 2020.

She was on the jury for American Idol and The X Factor.

She has received awards and honors such as three mentions in the Guinness Book of World Records, appearing several times on Forbes' "Earning Women in Music" list. Throughout her career, she has sold more than 40 million albums and 162 million singles.

The singer had a relationship with musician Travis McCoy. She was a partner of British comedian Russell Brand. They married on October 23, 2010 in India and on December 30, 2011, after fourteen months of marriage, Brand filed for divorce in Los Angeles, citing irreconcilable differences.

Perry began a relationship with Orlando Bloom in early 2016, and the couple got engaged on February 14, 2019.

On August 27, 2020, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom were the parents of a girl, one day before the release of their album Smile, the first for her children and the second for the actor. The little girl was named Daisy Dove.
